President Nichelae McFarlane

Law is an inevitability in my life because of how society has been structured. With the increasing injustices that are being institutionalized, it becomes the individual’s duty to correct it where they can. I am that individual.
Fun fact: I was in a lot of math competitions growing up.

Vice President Faina Belle Simon
Year: Junior
Major: Double majoring in Philosophy, Politics and Law and Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
My life has been continuously shaped by the law directly and indirectly. This has made me realize that I am interested in law because it provides the framework within which our society functions and being educated on the law means I have the power to change the world, to change society, and to change my community.
Fun fact: I don’t go a day without letting someone know I’m HATIAN

Secretary Wayra Lopez
Year: Junior
Major: Philosophy, Politics and Law and Sociology with a minor in Human Rights.
I’m interested in law because it’s no secret that the United States’ criminal justice system is in need of change. This is seen in part through the disproportionate, unfavorable impact that marginalized communities experience as a result of our justice system. The system not only enables and facilitates discrimination and other injustices, but it also promotes it. I’m choosing to be a part of this change, but first I need to understand the laws and policies of the United States.
Fun fact: I have a pet iguana! His name is Lex.

Treasurer Yerlin Nuesi
Year: Junior
Major: Human Development, with a minor in Spanish.
Growing up, I knew I wanted to work in law enforcement. I saw the first episode of Law & Order and it was over. I was determined to be the next Olivia Benson. Fast forward to my junior year at Bing, I feel the urge to advocate for those that do not have the resources to do so. What better way to do that than to fight for my clients’ rights in a courtroom? Let’s talk about it.
Fun fact: I went on a wilderness expedition, where I spent 3 weeks on a sailboat with 8 other people.
Educational Coordinator Claudia Ortiz
Year: Junior
Major: Sociology
As we know, there’s a lot of systematic injustice towards the minority community. It’s one thing to hear that the criminal justice system discriminates against minorities, and it’s another thing to sit in court and see it happen right before your eyes every day, like I did one summer. Change starts with one person, and I want to be part of this change; an equal chance by the law, and equal representation regardless of the color of your skin and your background.
