If we have learned anything as a community it is that we need to be vigilant and realize that we have a vital role to play within the very systems that oppress us, the very systems that dehumanize and kill us. We must be active in the established institutions that do not benefit us in order to create such changes and implement new standards and institutions to work for us, and the progression of society. This is why I wholeheartedly believe in the mission of this organization to bring about institutional change by supporting the legal goals of those who have experienced injustice firsthand.

I knew I would pursue law from a young age for personal reasons but as I got older I started to realize how often social injustices occur in our community and around the world and how it affects families. My plan is to dabble into corporate law so that I can build connections and generate enough money to start my own non profit law firm with a focus on human rights. That way I can be of service to our community and to those abroad.

Major: Human Development
Year: Senior
I am interested in law because I grew up witnessing several injustices at the hands of law officials without fear of repercussions. Our current system reproduces injustices and inequalities and that can’t change without individual effort. I want to be a part of the change and progression that is so desperately needed.
Fun Fact: I am currently learning my third language.

I’ve always had an interest in how our society functions and how our laws play a part. I love the thought of being able to make a difference through our government which gave me a interest in helping others through a legal field! Can’t wait to do more this year with Thurgood!
