Yemen, a country in the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia, remains the world’s worst humanitarian crisis caused by an ongoing civil war, famine, military blockade, cholera outbreak, and current health crises. The Yemeni Civil War began in 2015 when the Houthi insurgents took control of the country’s capital. 7,700 civilian deaths, mostly caused by Saudi-led coalition air-strikes, have been verified but it is believed this number is much higher. These air-strikes have also caused devastation of infrastructure, health, water, and sanitation facilities. This war has intensified the ongoing famine, which is directly affecting more than 17 million of the population, which worsened because of Saudi Arabian warships blockading Yemen’s sea, land, and air. Due to these factors, the famine of Yemen is predicted to be the worst seen in decades. In addition to this, because of the populations already weakened state and lack of quality health care, the effect of COVID-19 is predicted to be catastrophic. Families continue to lack basic necessities including safety, food security, and health. Yemen is facing multiple crises affecting millions of lives, we urge you to do your part to make a difference.
