What is Happening in Afghanistan?

After the September 11 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in the United States, President George W. Bush launched a major military operation in Afghanistan targeting the Taliban regime. The fundamentalist Taliban regime, at the head of the country since 1996 was ousted from power by an international coalition led by the United States in 2001. Now the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan almost twenty years later. The Taliban have played a major role in the history of Afghanistan. This fundamentalist group, continues to demand a rigorous application of Sharia law as well as the total submission of women.
