Ahmaud Arbery was a 25 year old black man targeted and murdered in his hometown of Glynn County, Georgia. On February 23rd, Arbery went for a jog around a nearby neighborhood when a local man, Gregory McMichael, saw him outside of his window. McMichael claimed that Arbery looked like the man responsible for recent home robberies and decided to follow him in his pickup truck with his son, Travis, and two loaded guns.

The father and son drove up to Arbery and asked him to slow down so they could talk with him, Travis then proceeded to get out of the car and approach Arbery with a shotgun. Arbery, who was unarmed, attempted to physically fight him off before being shot twice.

This case has lacked media attention, due to the current pandemic, and has also failed to pursue justice for Ahmaud Arbery. Neither Gregory nor Travis McMichael have been arrested for this crime since the decision to present the case to a grand jury is still being decided. Travis McMichael has also been claiming self defense because Arbery physically attacked him first, even though we presume this is because McMichael was carrying a shotgun. This prolonged wait to arrest the McMichaels has also been because of their connections with the District Attorney's Office, which has resulted in the prosecutor having to be changed twice for possible biases. This case is still ongoing but the lack of action on the part of law enforcement has been extremely disheartening and has prevented justice for Arbery and his family.
